She desires between leaves, branches, and bramble. All alight in the softest glow of forest fire. Make your wishes, starry-eyed dreamer.

Fairy...weeee...I'm losing it, eh? They're cool...I liked to think they were real when I was little...they still are. We all have little fairies buzzing around us, just no one wants to see them.

Took me around 5 hours, mechanical pencils, with tortillions and tissue paper...9" x 12" on vellum or bristol...I forget. Drawn like 2 months ago, right after I submitted my portfolio, I just felt so good it was done I wanted to draw something that wasn't geared toward what academic fogies would be looking for. Which is such a nice break. I'm mostly inspired by ~puimun's pencil drawings, they are so beautiful and graphic. I just wanted to try my hand at something illustrative like that. It was fun. I used a photo of the model Daria Werbowy as a reference, changed it up a lot, but I wanted to get basic anatomy somewhat non-off. Lol. I try.

Enjoy!

to create such beauty we have an obligation to cause destruction

I'm not in denial. I'm just very selective of the reality that I wish to accept.

Nice work indeed. Great shading for her clothes and the tree branches. Cute little birds perched up there too : )

The tree looks so realistic. 8-) You did a fantastic job on the shading and whatnot. One of these days, I'll reach your skill level. Tortollions are those things that you can use to smudge eh? I need to get me a couple hundred more of those. You draw feet and hands so perfectly. Is there a book or some sort of tutorial that you can reccomend to me? I sucketh at those things and some others that will remain unheard of until I submit something and then you can see for yourself. hehe

Hehe, well, yes that's what tortillions are. I like the ones that aren't the cheap ones where the paper is wrapped around, but the solid ones that are more stumpy. I think they call them "blending stumps" but they are essentially tortillions, they have two ends and come in many sizes! Very handy, and you get good usage out of them...if it gets too dirty just rub it a bit on some paper. And I by no means draw hands and feet perfectly, lol, those are the things I need the most work in. They are so hard! I took art in school, so I really never looked for outside resources for drawing and such. But...there's plenty of stuff on the web. Like some basic anatomy rules and stuff, I've looked that up, its pretty useful. Drawing, particularly figure drawing, is just something you just have to practice. That way you train your eye, so you can pick out the relationships in porportion and space. I'm a pretty hardcore traditionalist when it comes to drawing, so I would highly suggest getting a model. Or if you're like me, and can't get one, and are fairly full of yourself...get a mirror! Just keep drawing, you always get better each time! :D
